Structured Design Process to Speed Time to Market

Christakis presents a drug development case study where collective wisdom, guided by structured design process (SDP), targets reduced time to move a new drug from discovery to the pharmacy.

While primarily addressing the front-end work needed for rapid drug development, the SDP process was used to first focus the interdisciplinary team on a triggering question, then through constructive dialog bring the team to consensus on a collaborative action plan (Christakis, 2006).

One team member commented “all the knowledge and ideas that were shared and discussed during the process would never have come forth in a standard project team meeting.” (Christakis, 2006).

Structured design process attempts to harness collective wisdom through effective large group dialog.
